We love to see our families here in Wellington, Florida, planning this big milestone. These memories are so precious, it’s important to capture them. With that in mind, we wanted to give parents some tips on how to plan for a perfect first birthday photography session.

Planning for your First Birthday Photo Session: Coordinate Your Colors

If you’re going to hang your pictures on the wall (and you should!) then you want the images to coordinate with your décor. Pick colors that won’t clash with the decorations you already have around your home. That way, the colors featured in the portraits can tie in with other colors in your room; like your area rug or throw pillows. We love when photos from our family sessions and first birthday milestone sessions are hung up on the walls!

Think Outside the Box for your Cake Smash

Instead of frantically running to Pinterest for ideas at the last second, why not do a themed smash for your little one? You could pick a smash cake patterned after your favorite movie or book. Or maybe your little one already has some favorites of his or her own! Whatever you choose, we guarantee that personalization will make for adorable and unique cake smash photographs.

Planning for the Cake: Practice Sweets

You’d be surprised how many little ones aren’t fond of being near cake or messy icing! It’s always a good idea to practice letting your little one taste something sweet, like a cupcake, so you can have an idea of how he or she will react. If necessary, this will even give you time to plan an alternate option for smashing.

Plan the Photography Session around your Nap Schedule

You want to give your little one the best chance of a happy and fun time, so you’ll want to schedule around your baby’s nap and/or sleeping schedule. After all, that makes for a happy baby and less stress for you as parents!
