300 guests, LOTS of music and dancing, a meticulously planned wedding, and a striking venue in the form of the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa – Sanskriti and Ambar’s wedding included all this and a lot more. A traditional Indian wedding, theirs was a 3-day event, with each one packed with energy and good vibes. Each wedding we photograph always has certain moments that always stay with us – the first look, the crazy dancing, an emotional family moment, and Sanskriti and Ambar’s had it all!
Sanskriti and Ambar’s Story
Sharing the story of how they got to their wedding day, our couple told us, “We met in medical school at Johns Hopkins.” Sanskriti was an incoming first-year, and Ambar was a rising third year. They continued, “While we both had noticed each other, a mutual friend who knew that we were both interested in the other had us meet not-so-coincidentally.”
That day, Ambar asked Sanskriti out to dinner, and fortunately, she said yes. A week later, he took her to a Mediterranean restaurant, and it all moved forward from there. The proposal was at a rooftop lounge in front of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline in New York City, where the bride and groom both are resident physicians at Columbia University Medical Center.
Sanskriti and Ambar’s Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa Wedding
Our bride and groom’s 3-day wedding at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa was loaded with entertainment, culture, and lots of traditions. Day 1 was all about the mehndi (henna) ceremony. It’s the event where the bride and her guests have henna applied to their hands. A classic Hindu ceremony tradition, the bride typically gets mehndi on her hands, arms, and feet. It is often said that the deeper the color of the bride’s mehndi, the stronger the love between the couple. And from what we could see, Sanskriti and Ambar would have no complaints in that department.
Day 2 included the sangeet ceremony. When we say the wedding had a lot of music, we mean there was literally a whole day/event dedicated to just music. Sangeet literally translates to music in the English language, and this is an event held a few days before the wedding and is filled with dance, music, and the most beautiful colors.
And then came Day 3 – the wedding day. Ambar arrived in style with a baraat on a beautifully dressed horse. A baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom. There’s lots of celebrating, dancing and music, and this celebration can easily go up to an hour. The highlight of the baraat, besides the baraat itself, of course, was Ambar’s mother and his groomsmen. These guys just had SO much energy. There was not a single moment where they stopped singing or dancing. They were just so happy for the groom, and we loved seeing that. It was so exciting to be experiencing all these moments as they unfolded. Sanskriti and Ambar are truly blessed to have such incredible people in their lives. Traditionally, the baraat dances all the way to meet the bride’s family, and so did this one.
Sanskriti and Ambar had a lovely first look before their ceremony. Despite so much happening simultaneously, we made sure we got some romantic couples portraits of them. They had a Hindu wedding, including the tradition of taking 7 rounds around the holy fire. Once the ceremony was over, they had a cocktail hour outside and one of the most lively receptions we’ve witnessed inside the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. Besides tons of choreographed dance performances, including the first dances, there was also an exceptional performance by a Sitar player.
