Organic Moments took some time to interview one of the recent brides that planned her destination wedding in Naples, Florida.
Susan and Dave came from Boston to Southwest Florida to have their dream wedding. We had Susan answer a few questions about what it took to make her wedding possible from so far away.
What was the most difficult part of planning your destination wedding?
Susan said the most challenging thing was coordinating the tiny details. It was a bit tedious organizing all the vendors for her wedding from so far away. She made so many phone calls trying to organize everyone so that she was getting exactly what she wanted. She also had to fly down several times to try on her dress.
What were the three main things you took into consideration when planning?
Location
“We really wanted the beach. We wanted to make sure we were close to the water.”
Susan and Dave wanted to make sure they had the beach available for pictures. They really love the water and had to make sure that was incorporated into their most special day.

Time of Year
Florida is hot in summer, like a swamp in the middle of the jungle hot, and we wanted to make sure it was a good time of year. As some of you know, summertime in South Florida is no joke. From heat and humidity to thunderstorms and hurricanes, having a wedding in Florida in the summertime is not exactly ideal.
Great Vendors
Susan used The Knot and Wedding Wire to find her vendors, including us, (book us now) for her wedding. Her main tip for finding vendors that were right for her was:
“Don’t be afraid to make as many phone calls as you need to get comfortable with your vendors.”
What final tips would you give to prospective brides when booking their destination wedding?
“Make sure you work out the details for your big day. Make as many phone calls as you need and don’t forget to have fun.”
Here are a couple things we would like to add to all our brides looking to book their destination wedding.
- Don’t forget to tell your guests early. It is important to let your guests know well in advance so they have plenty of time to book flights, make hotel arrangements and save money to get to your wedding.
- Try to visit your venue in advance. We understand that may not be possible in all cases, but ideally, you would like to see your venue in person. Everything isn’t always as it seems on the internet and you want to get up close and personal before you choose your venue. If a trip to your venue isn’t possible beforehand, try and arrive a few days early so you can scope the place out.
- Don’t forget to look up the local marriage requirements for your destination wedding. Many places have local laws that may prohibit you from getting married in that area. Some places, in France for instance, require you to arrive at least 40 days before you get married.
