We’d say you’re on the right path. Knowing and following a few tips can help you prepare for  your engagement session so that it goes smoothly and you get stunning photos.

Our Top 10 Tips to help you prepare for Your Engagement Session

1. Pick a Location

When picking a location think outside of the box. What are you into? Do you like cars? Do you have a boat and would love spending the day cruising the inlet? Maybe you both enjoy hiking. Pick a location that best suits your personality as a couple.

We travel and love to photograph at new destinations so don’t feel hesitant to choose a destination outside of Palm Beach County or Florida.

2. Finalize a Date

Pick a date. Think about a season you love. Think about the weather around that date. What is your favorite time of the year? In Florida, the summer months tend to be rainy and hot so choose what you think is best for the two of you.

3. Decide Your Dress

This is an important part of  preparing for your engagement session. You’d want to look your best and also compliment your partner. So decide your outfits in advance. If you are going to the ocean will you be getting in the water? If so make sure to bring a change of clothing and towel.

4. Think About Makeup

By makeup, we do not mean that you need to be done up like a professional model (No harm if you do). However, a little makeup would help add color to your lips or give an even tone to your skin. You can have a makeup trial with your makeup artist before the actual day of your shoot.

5. Don’t Worry About Props

We say you can skip bringing props to the session. Your engagement session should be more about you two interacting as a couple. We want to get to know you and capture your real emotions.

6. Welcome Children and Pets

If you have children or pets should you bring them? Well, we think why not but, bring a babysitter or family member to watch them. They can hop in for a few photos and then we can go adventure on our own. As parents, we know how your little one can cling to you and it could be hard to focus on relaxing while your little one is running near the ocean.

7. What if it’s a Rainy Day

What happens if it rains? We will check in the day before and on the day of your engagement session to confirm. We do not charge a rescheduling fee in case of weather issues. we will just pick a new date. If we get a surprise rain when we are already out for the shoot, you might just get some wonderful engagement photos in the rain.

8. Don’t Stress Over Posing

If you think you might get awkward in front of the camera and will not be able to pose well. Don’t worry you are not alone. Many couples don’t know how to pose and feel uneasy about being in front of the camera. Just relax! We will help you and make you feel comfortable.

9. Show up on Time

This is our BIGGEST TIP on this list. Light is important for your session. Let us know beforehand, if you want a night-time session with stars or if you want a golden hour shoot. We would plan accordingly. We all need to reach the location on time (or even before it.)

10. Show Off Your Engagement Photos

You can use your gorgeous engagement photos for ‘save the dates’. You can get them printed for display at your wedding reception or the cocktail hour. These photos can also be used online as an announcement of your relationship.

 

11. BONUS: Get ready, Relax and Have Fun

This session will be the celebration of your engagement so do not exert yourself too much and forget to actually have fun. Let this session be all about love and smiles rather than too much planning and worry.
