Personally, we love the thought of a giant wedding surrounded by all your family and friends. We also believe going to an amazing destination, climbing a mountain, or getting married in nature with just your fiancé and maybe one or two other friends is pretty magical as well.
Elopements do have their benefits. You are going to save the time and stress of:
- Planning a big wedding
- Writing invitations for those people you have narrowed down to a reasonable size from the thousands of potential guests
- Waiting for responses from that narrow list
- Hiring a caterer
- Tasting cakes
- Picking a venue
It also gives you a chance to spend extra money on things that might be a little bit more important like your wedding photographer, honeymoon or a down payment on a house.
Elopements can also allow you privacy. There are times when potential guests or family members may get offended if they didn’t make the list. Saying “We eloped!” is pretty much a cure-all for those folks potentially getting their feelings hurt.

Many brides today don’t like being the center of attention.
Eloping allows them to avoid the “all eyes on me” syndrome. When 50% of the population can be categorized as introverted, you know there must be a lot of couples out there who feel uncomfortable at their own wedding. If the thought of saying “I do” in front of a bunch of guests makes you want to run, you are not alone. Eloping could be the wedding of your dreams, with just you and your significant other celebrating together. Another problem with weddings is that everybody who is invited thinks it’s about them. Your bridesmaids are concerned with how they look, your mom wants everything done perfectly, and your guests are looking to be well-fed, well boozed, well entertained, and comfortable throughout the night. We say forget all that. Getting married is about you and your significant other. You can always celebrate later with your families, but let that one special moment take place without an audience.
You can elope anywhere you want.
On your local beach, in Fiji, Hawaii, on a yacht in the south of France or in your backyard. Eloping allows you the freedom to choose your wedding destination without all the hoopla of getting your guests to your location that maybe halfway around the globe. Be sure to check the local laws for weddings wherever you choose.

Eloping is also super romantic.
The thought of you and your fiancé running off in secret is kind of as romantic as it gets. It doesn’t matter if anybody else knows — neither of you really care — and absolutely no frills are necessary. If you think about it and a whole traditional ceremony and a band of matching bridesmaids and groomsmen are kind of dorky in your opinion, eloping might just be for you. Sometimes, it’s just more fun to keep a secret. At least until you update your Facebook status to married.
Eloping might not be for everyone.
Some brides and grooms yearn for that big day and the big show that goes along with it, but if saving money, time, and stress appeals to you, finding a beautiful spot to elope with your fiancé may just be the way to go for you.
